Before-and-After Website Reviews: Measure Clarity, Not Just Style

CHC GROWTH INSIGHTS · PRACTICAL GUIDES

In this guide

Evaluate a website redesign through clearer offers, useful information, and working next steps instead of appearance alone.

A redesigned website can look dramatically different while leaving the customer’s main questions unanswered. To judge an improvement, compare what a visitor can understand and do before and after the change.

An illustrative rewrite

Before: ‘We deliver innovative solutions with exceptional service.’ After: ‘Residential window cleaning in your service area. Request an estimate and tell us how many windows need attention.’

The second statement is less grand, but more informative. It identifies a service and a next step. This example is hypothetical; it is not a claim about results from a CHC project.

Examine three practical differences

First, review the offer. Can someone identify the service and whether it fits their situation? Second, review confidence. Are there accurate details about the process, relevant work, and answers to common concerns? Third, review action. Can a visitor call, request information, or book without confusion?

Visual design supports those jobs through readable text, clear hierarchy, and comfortable spacing. It does not substitute for missing information.

Measure carefully after launch

Check contact forms and call buttons immediately. Then review useful actions over an appropriate period. Record changes in traffic sources, seasonality, pricing, and advertising that might influence the comparison.

If the new site produces more inquiries while advertising spend also doubles, the redesign alone cannot receive all the credit. Be precise about what the evidence shows.

Before approving your next redesign, ask for a visitor-focused explanation of the changes. ‘The page is more modern’ is a design observation. ‘Customers can now see the service area and book from their phone’ describes a practical improvement.
